Environmental hotel: A fight against Global warming

December 17th, 2009

We all are well aware about the adverse effect of global warming on the mother Earth and also know that it will continue for centuries if something really appreciable is not applied against it. Not only that global warming and other issues like imbalanced ecology, disturbed food chain and so on are more or less co-related with each other. One’s consequence is the cause of another problem which gradually ends up making a chain reaction of troubles.

Moreover, we all know that one of the biggest step to all such problems is to promote as much as greenery possible on Earth and conserve as much as energy we can. And to uproot this problem simple plantation campaign is not going to help. We actually need to start thinking green. All the sectors like hospitality, government sectors should adopt a meaningful and positive step to turn into green.

And one of the most appreciable and advantageous step towards conserving the environment is the “Environmental hotels” or the Green Hotels”. These hotels are meant for recreating and refreshing the visitors and also maintaining the ecological balance and saving the greenery. Infact the features of the environmental hotels are the solution for global warming, imbalanced ecology and so on.

Sustainable solutions and environmental tips for green Hotels:

There are immense ways and tips for hotels to conserve energy and become environmentally responsible such as energy conservation system application, recycling waste products etc. Some of these Sustainable solutions and environmental tips are mentioned below:-

Start planting an organic garden to supply fresh produce to their guest. Planting those plants which consume less water. Start installing sink aerators and low-flow showerheads. Start using towels and sheets made from linen instead of thousands of napkins. Start using compact fluorescent lights and timers or sensors in them for less frequently used areas. Start using a compost bin for leftover food or simply give it to  a local nonprofit organization. Start buying guest amenities and food in bulk.

Participation in Green Programs:

Participating in a green program and executing the sufficient green actions is more important rather than just becoming a member of green association. Just by getting involved in a certification program does not guarantee as much green action as performed by the program. And the environment would become territory for tranquility and peace which would be free from pollution and global warming.

Eventually we can say that becoming green actually means acting green as in to make greenery a part of daily life common activities. The positive revolution of these environmental hotels  in the field hospitality sector is for sure going to change our environmental condition a far more better than what it is today.

Skill Sets To Combat Environmental Problems

September 8th, 2009

We all want the younger generation of today to enjoy a brighter future – a desire that’s exemplified, in part, by current actions in favour of environmental issues. After all, the planet will soon be in your children’s hands, and you want them to be able to enjoy it rather than have to work solely to fix problems created by generations before.

But of course, you can’t just hope that today’s younger generation will respect the environment in future years. Indeed, such a way of thinking must be refined throughout their young lives and into their adult years, so that as working adults, they’re prepared to make wise choices for their planet.

So what can you, as parents and teachers, do to instill an environmentally conscious way of thinking in your children and students? Of course, day-to-day practices in the home and in school – such as recycling, energy conservation and waste management – are a big part of the process. Children need to grow up knowing that they can ultimately make a big difference by way of day-to-day actions. But there’s even more you can do to teach youngsters about preserving the planet – and the opportunities are increasing by the day.

There are now countless education programmes designed not only to educate children and young adults about the current environmental issues, but also to give them the skill sets necessary to consider answers and devise solutions for the future. From in-class curriculums and clubs to after school activities, there are many opportunities for teachers and school officials to implement programmes in the classroom.

However, there are also many educational tools – such as computer programmes and games – that both parents and teachers can use when considering environmental education for their kids. What’s more, there are countless opportunities for children and young adults to take part in challenges and competitions regarding environmental issues, ultimately encouraging them to be even more proactive regarding such issues in the future.

Of course, parents and teachers want to see their students thrive – and indeed, this now goes beyond personal growth and future careers. You also want to see younger generations enjoy the planet without constantly having to worry about its degeneration and ultimate demise. So if you can teach kids and young adults today about preserving the environment tomorrow, you can more successfully help clear a brighter path for the future.

Environmentally Friendly Printing

August 9th, 2009

With the threat of global warming and CO2 emissions on the rise, environmental concern has become a daily subject with many companies marketing their “green” qualifications.

One industry in particular that has been investing big in environmentally friendly techniques is the printing industry; where many companies are modifying their printing processes in order to work under the “Green Printing” label.

Green Printing is an environmentally friendly printing process that uses natural inks, recycled papers and energy conservation.

Like in many industries, there are lots of companies working or marketing their “green services” saying how environmentally friendly they are, but only those companies with certifications from national and international agencies are allowed to market such labels.

Accreditations from The Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC), the Forest Stewardship Council and The Sustainable Forestry Initiative help to ensure the printing process is environmentally friendly.

One of the most renowned accreditations for the printing industry is the ISO 14001 environmental management standards. This accreditation is an international specification, aimed to establish an organized approach to systematically reduce the impact of the environmental aspects which an organization can control.

But there is more the printing and publishing industries can do to endorse their Green printing services; they can take part on campaigns like the Woodland Trust and become members of the Ride2Work Scheme, these are campaigns based in the UK.

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity which has an ambitious children’s tree planting project launched in the UK, with plans to help plant 12 million trees over the next five years.

While the Ride2Work is a government initiative to help reduce company’s carbon footprint, also known as the Green Transport Plan, it also aimed to make cycling more attractive and more accessible by taking advantage of some unique tax incentives.
